Audio MIDI Setup User Guide

After you set up a MIDI device, you can use MIDI Studio to test the connection by sending MIDI information to and from the device.

  1. In the Audio MIDI Setup app on your Mac, choose Window > Show MIDI Studio.

  2. In the MIDI Studio window, click the Configuration pop-up menu (it may show Default), then choose the configuration you want to test.

  3. After the configuration loads, click the Test MIDI Setup button in the toolbar.

  4. To test the configuration’s setup, do the following:

    • Test the MIDI Out port: On the device icon, click the down arrow (the Out port). Cnet mac mini. This highlights the arrow and sends a MIDI signal to your device.

If your device has status lights for data transmission, the light for the port you clicked should illuminate. If your device is properly connected for audio output and it’s set up to receive on the MIDI channel that Audio MIDI Setup is broadcasting on, the device also makes a sound.

    • Test the MIDI In port: On a controller (such as a keyboard) attached to your interface, play a note. On the device in the MIDI Studio window, the up arrow (the In port) is highlighted when it receives the signal.

  5. When you’re done testing, click the Test MIDI Setup button in the toolbar to turn off test mode.

If the MIDI signals are working correctly but your MIDI device doesn’t make a sound, check the following:

  • The MIDI cables are connected to the appropriate input and output ports.

  • The audio output from your device is connected properly to your amplification system.
